Author Bio

Kailin Gow has appeared on top national syndicated talk shows such as ABC Radio, Barbara Dooley show, Chat with Women on KKNW Seattle, Broadminded on Sirius Radio XM, and more as a leading authority on YA and women's issues including self-esteem, body image, dating and sexual relationships, abuse, and bullying. Kailin has been a published author for over 10 years with over 100 titles published under her name and under pen names.
She is the founder of the community social site, The Saving You Saving Me Project,http://www.savingyousavingme.com which helps teens, young adults, and women deal with social issues like sexual abuse, self-esteem, body image, bullying, cutting, relationships, and more in a positive community environment. The Saving You Saving Me Project is an extention of her YA-mature fiction Saving You Saving Me.

Kailin Gow began writing books for tween girls to help them with self-confidence and self-esteem. Her book, Gifted Girls Activities Guide to 365 Days of the Week, became a reference book used in girls organizations across the U.S. As her tween fans grew to become teens and young adults, Kailin began writing engaging and entertaining young adult book series for them. The results are book series like the Frost Series, PULSE Series, Wicked Woods Series, Stoker Sisters, Phantom Diaries, The Fire Wars, FADE, DESIRE, and more.

All her books are inspired by personal experiences. Saving You Saving Me was inspired by her experience as a peer counselor for young women during college and from her psychology major college roommate's experience being in a relationship similar to the one portrayed by Sam and Collins in the book. Loving Summer was inspired by Kailin's experience growing up with a family consisting of a mother, two sons, and a daughter who went through a similar experience of tragedy in the book. Aunt Sookie is based on herself and some actor friends she knows. The Frost Series, Circus of Curiosities Series, and FADE Series came about through vivid dreams. Never Say Never was inspired by Kailin's experience as a radio host and working with and interviewing bands, as well as having college friends who were in bands. Kailin also played the drums and keyboard for a band she once started. A classically-trained musician, she was once led her school orchestra, playing first chair violin. Her experience in the music world and her love of Phantom of the Opera, inspired the Phantom Diaries. PULSE was inspired when Kailin was in the hospital suffering from heavy blood loss post surgery and needed several bags of blood to survive (like a vampire). Beautiful Beings was inspired by her college encounter with a young demon exorcist. A pastor once told her she had the gift of sight and that she was destined to become a prolific author, many times over.

She began taking her writing seriously when her daughter was diagnosed as being on the spectrum and her mother was fighting three types of cancer. Four years later, her daughter was no longer on the spectrum, and her mother became cancer free. Kailin believes in hope and miracles, after having been through several struggles and experiences herself. This is why she writes.

When not busy inhaling chocolate and drinking coffee by the gallon, Kailin makes time for writing fantasy books, blogging as an expert blogger for Fast Company, volunteering as an Emergency Responder and volunteering for battered women's shelters. For fun, she plays the electric violin, and puts together a music playlist for her radio and web shows.

Her Frost Series consisting of the Bitter Frost Series, The Wolf Fey Series, and the Fairy Rose Chronicles along with her other book series are being developed into worldwide MMORPG Games by SEE GLOBAL ENTERTAINMENT, which is the world's leading game developer known for developing the top blockbuster films into games.

To cover his guilt and anguish, he seeks dominatrix Mistress V (Aggie) to temporarily placate his inner turmoil. His cool defiance and unexpected dominance in the bedroom drives her to distraction and quickly steals her heart. When circumstances threaten Jace’s position in Sinners, Aggie must help him regain his rightful place in the band while showing him that time and love can heal all wounds

To Be Released February 2013

My Review:

Hot Ticket (Sinners on Tour #3) by Olivia Cunning
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in the series Sinners on Tour, by Olivia Cunning, so first I will say you should go check out Backstage Pass and Rock Hard the other book in this series. Olivia Cunning has written a steamy, sexy, adult romance series about a heavy metal band. Olivia Cunnings has written some really good novels as I have read a few of them and her writing is great, her stories flow well and you love all her characters, the best thing about her writing is how she carries through with all of them in each book. It’s like catching up with old friends when you pick up the next book. Fantastic!

In Hot Ticket (book 3) this story revolves around Jace Seymour, the bass guitar player of the band Sinners. Jace is the newest member of the band and even though it’s been three years he still feels like they could ask him to leave at anytime. He stays in the background of the band and never really puts himself out there even on stage he prefers to stand back by the drummer. Jace really sells himself short a lot of times, being quiet, he is content and just playing his bass guitar.

In Rock Hard Jace meets Aggie who besides dancing for a living is a Dominatrix and they call her Madame V. Jace has some deep dark secrets and enjoys the BDSM scene, well some of it, he doesn’t want to submit to anyone but he does want to feel pain this is the only emotion he can deal with most of the time. So meeting Aggie and seeing her with a whip he figures this is the woman for him.

The romance between Aggie and Jace is fantastic, she gets him to open up and start dealing with his past. Jace past is heart breaking but through his music he has managed to keep some control over his life, but he never real lets anyone to close. With the help of Aggie and her need to make men to submit to her this is a great romance. The thing is Jace isn’t going to submit and Aggie doesn’t really want to inflict pain towards Jace. As him and Aggie begin to build a relationship they both seem to grow, and secrets of their pasts are told. It’s a really great romance that unfolds between these two.

Olivia Cunning has created a great series, in each book you learn more about the other characters and you get to catch up with everyone, her writing is fantastic. I cannot wait to read more in this series. I have rated Hot Ticket a 4 star rating.

About The Author:

Dark Waltz by A.M Hargrove - Making Connections Blog Tour

DARK WALTZ, A Praestani Novel
by A.M. Hargrove
Series: The Praestani Series
Genre: Adult Romance (a blend of paranormal and sci-fi)
Heat: HotDark Waltz--A sizzling legend of loss, lust and love.

It’s the year 2030 and the human population has been annihilated by a virulent form of small pox. Liasare Davidson is desperately searching for her brother, who has been missing for three months. It’s been eighteen years since she was evacuated from Earth and she is horrified to see it’s become a cesspool of unimaginable things.

In her quest to find her brother, she meets Jurek, a powerful and enigmatic being that frightens her, yet she is unable to resist. When things begin to unfold between them, they both discover a paralyzing truth that puts Liasare at grave risk. She must make a choice to join Jurek and find her brother or fulfill a role she believes she is ill equipped to undertake.

My Review:

Dark Waltz, a Praestani Novel (#1) by A.M. Hargrove
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dark Waltz is an adult science fiction novel and is the spinoff of the authors Guardians of Vesturon Series (YA Genre). Since I am a huge fan of A.M. Hargrove I was really excited about reading this book to see how she crossed over to the adult genre. I have to say her writing of course is fantastic, character are developed well that you immediately have an interested in what is going on and I have to say I sort of have a crush on Jurek, plus in my head I can picture him tall, dark, long hair, muscles and very sexy. I wonder if aliens would have tattoo’s …yummy!

So this novel is about Liasare who is searching for her brother and she meets up with Jurek and the chemistry between these two is off the chart hot. Their story is full of mystery; adventure a tad bit of suspense and of course a sizzling romance. But of course Liasare is here to find her brother and has an uphill battle to conquer. She has to dig deep to find the strength to overcome her new abilities and to continue on in her search for her brother.

A.M Hargrove has written a fantastic story and I for one will recommend this book to all of my friends and followers. I have given Dark Waltz a 5 star rating as the writing is great, the story flows well and I’m in love with all the characters she has introduced us readers too. I cannot wait for the next novel in this series to see what will happen next.

My Interview A.M Hargrove:

1. What inspired you to write about the theme?

When I wrote Determinant, I introduced a new character, Jurek. He sort of stole the show. He kept bugging me…literally, he wanted to take the whole book over. I had issues with this because Determinant is a YA/NA book, so that wouldn't do because Jurek definitely does NOT fit that mold. So he eventually won the battle and ended up getting his own story.

2. What’s did you find to be the most challenging aspect of writing? Most rewarding?

Honestly, the most difficult is the time. I have so many ideas brewing in my head I want to get them all out, but I don't have enough hours in the day.  The most rewarding is having the book go live.

3. While creating your book, what was one of the most surprising things you learned?

For me it's when I start a project, I think I have it all figured out it my mind…where it's going from start to finish. But then, I start writing and the characters come alive and take over. They have their own ideas on what they want to happen and things turn out much differently than what I originally intended.

4. How do you develop your characters?

When I start to form the plot in my head, I can see the characters in my mind. Sometimes I base them on pictures of models I've seen in magazines or on the internet, and sometimes they are just images conjured up by my mind. If you've read any of my books, you'll know I have this thing about guys with long hair. So it's often difficult to find pictures of men that fit my characters. When I have the idea in my mind, I go from there. Their personalities fall in line with the story…are they alpha males…dominant and strong or are they the type of guy that wants his girl on more of an equal footing? Is he overbearing or just protective?  I start with the basics and then as the story becomes more complex, the character begins to develop.

5. Which of your characters would you most/least like to invite to dinner, and why?

That would definitely be Jurek. First of all, I would want to look into his eyes. Then I would want to feel the way the room charges up with his power. And then…well, I think I'll just stop right here. *Wink*

6. Do you have any other published works?

Yes, I have the The Guardians of Vesturon series which includes, Survival, Resurrection and Determinant (where we first meet Jurek) and the novella Beginnings. I'm also getting ready to release my first contemporary romance this month.

7. Please tell us about your latest book.

Well, there are three that I'm working on right now. I'm getting ready to release a contemporary romance this month, I'm writing reEmergent, book 4 of The Guardians of Vesturon series and then I'm writing Death Waltz, the sequel to Dark Waltz.

8. What does your husband/wife think of your writing? Do you ever ask him/her for advice?

My hubs thinks its great. But I will share this with you. When I was writing Dark Waltz, it was my first foray into the adult genre so I was a bit nervous when I wrote my first sex scene. I'm a pretty quick writer but that day, I spent most of it working on that one scene. I'd finally gotten it finished and polished up and I emailed it off to one of my beta readers, just to make sure I was on the right track. About that time, my hubs came home from work. So I handed him my computer and I asked him to read it and give me his opinion. He read it and about the time he was finishing, my email pinged with a response from my beta reader. She was flipping out with excitement over how great it was. So I asked my hubs and he tells me I need to add a lot more detail because he felt like I was missing too much on the descriptive side. I think he thought I was writing pornography or something. I quit asking for his opinion on sex scenes after that. LOL.

9.  After you've written your book and it's been published, do you ever buy it and/or read it?

Nope…because by the time it hits the market, I have read the damn thing fifty times. At least. I must admit though, I could go and read Dark Waltz again and again and not get tired of Jurek. I think it's because he has such depth to him...not to mention heat!

10. Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

They control me…I have no control. They own me. I am putty in their hands.

11. What is your favorite genre?

I'm a total romance freak…all the way. I also love suspense and thrillers.

12. Do you share rough drafts of your writings with someone whose opinion you trust?

That's a funny question Tana! I've tried to share them with you but you won't read them!…You don't have to use this ---HAHA!

13. Do you write on a computer? Do you print frequently? Do you correct on paper? What is your process?

100% computer…no printing, no paper.

Thank You A.M!

About the Author:

One day, on her way home from work as a sales manager, A. M. Hargrove, realized her life was on fast forward and if she didn't do something soon, it would quickly be too late to write that work of fiction she had been dreaming of her whole life. So, she rolled down the passenger window of her fabulous (not) company car and tossed out her leather briefcase. Luckily, the pedestrian in the direct line of fire was a dodgeball pro and had über quick reflexes enabling him to avoid getting bashed in the head. Feeling a tad guilty about the near miss, A. M. made a speedy turn down a deserted side street before tossing her crummy, outdated piece-of-you-know-what lap top out the window. She breathed a liberating sigh of relief, picked up her cell phone and hit #4 on her speed dial.

"Hello."
"Boss, is that you?"
"Why yes, A. M., who else would be answering my phone?"
"Er... right. Well, I'm calling to let you know you can pick up my luxury Ford Focus at Starbucks near the interstate."
"Why ever would I want to do that?"
"Because I quit you idiot!"

A.M. hit the end button and speed dialed her husband.

"Hi hubs, can you pick me up at Starbucks?"
"Sure... Having some car trouble?"
"Not at all. I don't have a car to have trouble with because I just quit my job."
"WHAT?!"
"It's time for a new career and I am going to be a very famous novelist."

So began A. M. Hargrove's career as a young adult paranormal romance author of self-published ebooks. Her series, The Guardians of Vesturon, centers around a family of six siblings and is a mix of humor, mystery, suspense and of course, love. Survival is her first book in the series and her second, Resurrection will be released in January.

If you're wondering, it didn't happen EXACTLY that way, but....

My Review:

Power Play by Emily Cade
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Power Play is a short Novella, Emily Cade’s writing is good the story develops quite fast and if full of hot passion and desire. I enjoyed Emily’s writing style and even though this was a short novel it really did make you want to read more.

Natalie is a busy career woman and knows she wants to get married and have children one day, but she has fantasies she would love to be fulfilled first. She ends up calling 1Nightstand Agency to help her dreams come true. She meets Ian and Todd who are best friends and love to have a ménage.

So too keep some of this review from too many spoilers all I can say is if you’re looking for a fast, enjoyable read check out Power Play by Emily Cade.

I have rated it a 3.5 star rating, the writing is good and come on who doesn’t want to read about two strong, handsome hockey players.

Excerpt:

"I've spent enough time around hockey players to know that they aren't the kind of guys that I want to waste my time with." She stared the two of them down, her eyes fixed and unyielding.

"And how is it that you've spent so much time around us that you know how all of us behave?" He knew some of his teammates could be real assholes, but he hated to think that their reputation could ruin this night for Todd and him. Especially after he'd spent most of practice sporting a hard on from fantasizing about the evening. They weren't allowed to ruin this for him.

"Scott's your friend that you set up with this service, right?" She started pacing.

Todd and Ian both nodded.

"Well, TJ is my best friend that I set up." She stopped and turned toward them.

For once, he actually felt speechless. That explained why she looked familiar to him. Now that he could place her, he remembered seeing her hanging around the rink after practice and before games. His brain sifted through the new information while Todd picked up the conversation.

"Look, I get it. You've met a few players who were complete jerks." She snorted and covered her mouth. Tempted to respond to her display, he bit the inside of his cheek and let his friend continue talking. "You asked for a certain experience tonight though. If we leave, you aren't going to get that.

Who knows when you'll be able to find a couple of other guys willing to provide it."

My Review:

In Bed with the Opposition by Stephanie Draven
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First I have to say this book really surprised me, I thoroughly enjoyed Stephanie Draven’s writing, it flows well, the character descriptions were great and you felt like you got to meet everyone and understood their personalities good or bad. This novel is filled with romance and politics. And yet it’s a great story and I really got into it. I had a hard time putting it down and stayed up a bit late so I could finish it.

We meet Grace, she was attending school to become a lawyer but ended up dropping out, now she is back home working on a political campaign with the one man she thinks she is madly in love with. Grace is funny, loves her lists and pretty much is waiting around for Ethan. Ethan and Grace’s relationship is more like a friend with benefits situation but she really believes eventually he will step up and pick her.

Then Grace runs into a man she met in school name Ethan who she had a lot of fun with but the relationship ended badly. As her and Ethan reconnect you see why she had so much fun with him, he really made her let go. Ethan decides to stay in town and work on the opposition’s campaign so he can be close to Grace. Of course nothing is easy for Grace and Ethan some secrets are revealed and Grace has to figure out what she wants for herself.

In Bed with the Opposition is a great read, I would recommend anyone who loves a good romance story to pick this one up. I definitely will be reading anything Stephanie Draven writes as I said before I thoroughly enjoyed the novel.

About The Author:

Stephanie Draven is currently a denizen of Baltimore, that city of ravens and purple night skies. She lives there with her favorite nocturnal creatures–three scheming cats and a deliciously wicked husband. And when she is not busy with dark domestic rituals, she writes her books.

Stephanie has always been a storyteller. In elementary school, she channeled Scheherazade, weaving a series of stories to charm children into sitting with her each day at the lunch table. When she was a little older, Stephanie scared all the girls at her sleepovers with ghost stories.

She should have known she was born to hold an audience in her thrall, but Stephanie resisted her writerly urges and graduated from college with a B.A. in Government. Then she went to Law School, where she learned how to convincingly tell the tallest tales of all!

A longtime lover of ancient lore, Stephanie enjoys re-imagining myths for the modern age. She doesn’t believe that true love is ever simple or without struggle so her work tends to explore the sacred within the profane, the light under the loss and the virtue hidden in vice. She counts it amongst her greatest pleasures when, from her books, her readers learn something new about the world or about themselves.

Stephanie also writes historical fiction as Stephanie Dray and has a series of forthcoming novels from Berkley Books featuring Cleopatra’s daughter.

Cover Reveal - Blood Rush (Demimonde #2) by Ash Krafton

Blood Rush

(Demimonde #2)

Sophie doesn’t believe in happily ever after. These days, she’d settle for alive after sunrise.

Advice columnist and newly-appointed oracle to the demivampire, Sophie Galen has more issues than a Cosmo collection: a new mentor with a mean streak, a werewolf stalker she can’t shake, and a relationship with her ex’s family that redefines the term complicated. And then there’s her ex himself, who is more interested in playing leader of the vampire pack than in his own salvation.

Becoming a better oracle is tough enough, but when Sophie encounters a deadly enemy – one she never dreamed of facing – it will take everything she’s ever learned in order to survive.

About the Author:

Ash Krafton is a writer of all things spec fic. She believes spectacular endings make the best beginnings… Why not? One billion black holes can’t be wrong. Her first novel BLEEDING HEARTS: Book One of the Demimonde was published in March 2012. The manuscript earned finalist distinction in several Romance Writers of America 2011 competitions and has been awarded several other awards. In addition to novel-length fiction, Ash enjoys writing poetry and short prose, some of which earned big ups by CNW/FFWA in 2008 and 2011 as well as the Abilene Writers Guild in 2010.

Ms. Krafton made her publishing debut in Spring 2009 when her poetry appeared in Poe Little Thing; her work has since appeared in several other journals including Niteblade, Ghostlight Magazine, The Skyline Review, and Silver Blade. One of her poems was selected as a Pushcart prize nominee. She’s a Published Member of Pennwriters and is co-editor of her area’s WordPress blog. She also contributes to Query Tracker’s blog. Ash resides with her family in a rural town in the heart of the Pennsylvania anthracite coal region. She’ll never leave, either, because coal is just another example of a spectacular ending waiting for a brilliant beginning. (It’s kinda fitting.) And because, like a black hole, once you’re in… you can never get out..

Join a race against time to find three crystal skulls that must be brought together, while all the forces of Chaos try everything to stop them!

Excerpt:

It all starts with a little burglary, one uncommon evening...

The floorboard creaked under the sole of his felt boot - a calculated risk whenever entering a sleeping man's room uninvited.

A breeze fluttered the loose linen curtain, and the sleeper stirred at the welcome respite from the hot sticky night. The prowler slowly exhaled the breath that was starting to burn in his lungs, every sense tingling, receptive to any change in the room or a sound from the street below.

The sleeper, thankfully, continued to sleep.

The street under the second-storey window was silent, the night given up to the occasional rounds of the city watch and those set on a darker business, the never-ending cat and mouse game that went mostly unappreciated by the law-abiding citizens of the sleeping city.

The summer had been one of the hottest people could ever remember, taxing the energy of the city’s inhabitants to the limit. Several of the more elderly citizens down at the port could be heard explaining that, ‘in their day’, the summers were often this hot, and indeed often hotter. Of course, these were the same group who would entertain the regulars at the portside taverns with tales of goblin hordes, ferocious sea serpents or the time the winters were so cold that the seas had frozen solid.

‘A man could have walked from here to Minster Island without ever seeing a boat or even getting his feet wet,’ was a much-repeated reminiscence. Whatever history really concealed, it was a hot summer, and this, a particularly humid night.

Pardigan watched the now softly snoring form and, moving his foot from the traitorous board, crept towards the cabinet that he knew held his prize. It was an elegant cabinet - its construction given over to more than mere function. Gracefully curved legs supported drawers and shelves that were fronted by a scrollwork of intricate designs. He inserted the blade of his knife between the edges of the middle left-hand drawer and felt for the hidden catch. If the information Quint had given him was correct, the false front should spring open. A prickle of sweat tickled his brow and he wiped it absently away. Glancing over to the still-sleeping form, he applied a little more pressure on what he hoped was the catch.

Nothing.

The merchant stirred, smacked his chops, exhaled wetly and then returned to snoring. Pardigan tried again...

About the Author - C.M.Gray
Born in Essex, England C.M.Gray has since been lucky enough to live and travel in many countries around the world. In fact he has lived more time outside of England than living there! Home now is just outside of Barcelona, Spain in a house in the middle of the forest with his Dutch born wife and two children.
C.M.Gray’s writing is mostly fantasy and many of the experiences he has had in Asia, Africa and the Middle East come to life in his writing. The Flight of the Griffin follows the adventures of a group of young orphans as they battle demons and bandits on a magical quest to stop the world tipping into Chaos, while his second book, Shadowland blends fantasy with history as an old story teller takes his audience back to Britain's dark ages in a pre Arthurian legend.

Not Quite Dating by Catherine Bybee - Blog Tour

Not Quite Dating
By Catherine Bybee
Not Quite Series Book One
Publisher Montlake
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Description:

Waitress and single mom Jessica “Jessie” Mann is practical to a fault. Even if she had time to date, which she doesn’t, she’d be determined to provide her son with a more secure upbringing than the one she had—and that would mean a husband with big bucks. When Jack Morrison—a sexy-as-sin, seemingly broke customer with a cowboy hat and a seductive grin—tries to flirt with her, she shoots him down. She doubts a carefree dreamer like Jack can provide the financial stability she needs. Yet with Christmas just weeks away, and Jessie not wanting to spend it alone, the charming Texan is proving hard to resist.

As the heir to the Morrison luxury hotel empire, Jack is used to being fawned over. But Jack needs someone who will fall in love with him—not his wealth. He’s set his sights on Jessie, though her hardened heart just might get in the way…To be sure, he conceals his true identity and offers to help Jessie find the rich husband she seeks. But Jack’s daring charade may rob him of the holiday wish he wants most of all…

My Review:

Not Quite Dating by Catherine Bybee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not Quite Dating is a contempory romance novel, Catherine Bybee’s writing is easy to read and the story flows seamlessly, it is some wonderful writing. I really liked all the characters involved in this story and felt like you really got to know everyone and of course want the best for them. I always think highly of authors who can make you laugh out loud and get so involved in the story that you cannot put this book down till you reach the end.

Jessie is a single mom that works hard to make sure she can give her son and younger sister everything they need. Life has been a struggle to make ends meet and Jessie works very hard to supply her family with the basic needs of life.

Jack who is a very rich man is tired of woman only wanting him for his money. Out celebrating with his friends they end up stopping by Jessie’s workplace and he makes it appears that he may just be some cowboy. He befriends Jessie and doesn’t tell her anything about his life and tries to get Jessie out on a date. Of course Jessie informs him she is looking for more in a man and doesn’t think he is her type.
His whole plan backfires, now he finds himself helping Jessie find a stable, well off man, the friendship and feelings that develop between these two is actually sweet and makes you laugh at the situation Jack has put himself in.

Lies, betrayal and romance, Not Quite Dating is a great read, I enjoyed Jessie and Jack’s story, I really enjoyed Catherine Bybee writing and cannot wait to read more from her and hopefully all the other characters in this novel will get their own stories.

I have rated Not Quite Dating a 4 star rating, and recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance novels this one is worth it.

Prologue
Subchapter 14 of the Moon Realm

Two years ago

Despite her nondescript gray tunic, the woman sticks out like a sparkling diamond in a coal mine, her shiny blond hair peeking out from beneath her dark hood. But it’s not her hair, or her face—which is remarkably beautiful beneath the dark shadows—that identifies her as a foreigner in the Moon Realm. Instead, it’s her gait, the way she carries herself: straight-backed and graceful and regal. Next to her the passing moon dwellers look hunched, their backs question marks and their faces turned to the dust.

She knows it’s the middle of the day—thus ensuring the girl will be at school—but the amount of light afforded by the overhead cavern lights is appallingly minimal, the near-equivalent of a Sun Realm dawn, or perhaps twilight.

Although she clearly doesn’t belong amongst the rundown and crumbling gray stone shacks, she doesn’t hesitate as she strides down the street, ignoring the stares she attracts. Unable to hold back her nerves any longer, she pauses—just a barely noticeable stutter step—as she nears her target: a tiny stone box, no larger than a medium-sized shed. She wonders how the two most powerful Resistance leaders could possibly be tucked in such an unremarkable corner of the Moon Realm. The front yard is barren rock, full of crisscrossing cracks and stone chips that roll and slide underfoot as she approaches the thin doorframe.

Before she knocks, her eyes are drawn to her feet, where she stands on the only unmarred stone square. Within the block is a single word—friend—elegantly cut with the skill of a professional stone worker. A hint of a smile crosses the woman’s face before she looks up. Despite all her doubts and fears and indecisiveness while making the decision that’s led her to this place, that one word chiseled at the entrance gives her hope that there’s a better life out there for her eldest son—that maybe things can improve for him and for the Tri-Realms as a whole.

Her life is forfeit—stomped out by a loveless sham of a marriage, to the President no less—but her son’s…well, her son’s life could change everything.

After a single deep breath, she gathers her courage in a raised fist. When her knuckles collide with the door, the sound is final and hollow in her ears, but in reality is only a thud. Tilting an ear, she listens for footsteps, but is rewarded with only cluttered silence. The clutter: her mind, which trips and stumbles over a thousand questions. Is anyone home? Will the door be slammed in my face? Have I made a grievous mistake? Have I failed him? Have I failed my son? Have I failed myself?
Unexpectedly and without fanfare, the door swings open; a dark-haired woman wearing a plain brown, knee-length tunic fills the gap, her eyebrows raised in surprise. If not for the foreigner’s information, which she received from a very reliable source, she wouldn’t believe this woman to be a revolutionary. Except for her eyes, that is. There’s a fire in her pupils that she’s only seen once or twice in her life. It’s the same fire she sees in her eldest son.

When the woman with the jet-black hair doesn’t speak, the intruder realizes her eyebrows are an unspoken question: Yes? Why have you wandered onto my doorstep?

Before answering the silent question, she pulls back her hood, releasing her golden locks and forcing away the identity-protecting shadows on her face. A spark of recognition flashes on the woman’s face, but fades just as quickly. Finally she speaks. “First Lady Nailin—why are you here?”

“Mrs. Rose—I have a proposition for you. May I come in?”
